Sarah Puckett is a master of the art of pickling and chutney making that builds on her family’s love of food and a history of making comestibles, often with the addition of spices brought home by the seafaring male line of the Puckett family.
The recipes for each of the chutneys and pickles are inspired by three generations of food lovers willing to combine traditional recipes with that little bit extra. Sarah was making up to 2,000 jars of chutney and pickles each week in her Victorian terrace home in York. However, demand is such that Sarah has now moved to a new "Pickle Palace' near Esingwold. Whenever possible, Puckett’s Pickles are made with locally sourced seasonal fruits and vegetables along with fresh herbs and carefully sourced spices. What’s not in the jar: no nasty preservatives, no needless food miles.
The chutneys and pickles are very versatile and inspire creativity. The Yorkshire Food Finder kitchen can attest to this with chutneys used as a straight tomato substitute for fabulous pizzas inspired by Sarah. The Puckett’s Pickles kitchen in York is truly artisan with a one-woman-powerhouse delivering an incredible range of chutneys and pickles through farmers’ markets, delicatessens in York and increasingly further afield.
