Stay in Harome

Cross House Lodge at The Star Inn

We've arranged for you to dine in style at the multi-award winning Star Inn. If you fancy a real treat you can stay just across the road in one of The Star’s Cross House Lodge eight stylish and highly individual rooms, many with quirky features such as Room 1's bath at the end of the bed or Room 4's rope-slung bed, or there's Room 5, which has its own snooker table, and Room 8 with its own piano. The attention to detail is continued throughout the communal areas: look out for painted 'mural' details in the lounge, lots of foodie books to peruse in front of the fire. Breakfast is normally taken in the spectacular Wheelhouse dining room.

The Area

The area around Harome is rich in natural wonders, historic sights, interesting market towns and activities for all the family. Harome is just a short drive from the North York Moors National Park which is well worth a visit all-year-round as are the Howardian Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Beyond the moors lies Whitby, a coastal jewel and an inspiration for Dracula. The ruined Byland and Rievaulx abbeys and historic castles attest to the area’s importance from medieval times. Castle Howard, setting for Brideshead Revisited, is a must for anyone interested in the stately homes of England.

The flourishing market towns of Helmsley, Pickering, Malton and Thirsk are nearby and well worth a visit. If you visit Thirsk, leave time for The World of James Herriott . York, the county's ancient capital, is less than an hour’s drive with the world famous Minster and much more.

For the inner child, how about taking a trip on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway to Heartbeat country? Or, what about the rides at Flamingo Land or even Eden Camp, the World War 2 prisoner of war experience? How about Scarborough for a day on the beach where you will stil find donkey rides and all the fun of the fair during the summer season.
